Well I've pushed this on Twitter and sometimes in Discord/other places to Comahan, so let's give it a shot. No ground rules YET in terms of time period but I'll let the peeps decide. Era will be taken into consideration as will rules. So for instance, taking George Mikan might seem like it'd work because he was great in his era, he would get absolute throttled now or even in the 70s. Obviously guys like Big O, Wilt, Russell, etc. would carry over fine.

Anyways, participants as of now...
1. Me
2. Comahan
3. BBD
4. Fernando/Mexican/MetSox
5. Paul
6. Scottyboy
7. TheNewWonder
8. SP
9. OSUGiants
10. DCM
11. Zach
12. TACKLE
13. WMD
14. YAYAreaRB
15. Kyle

16. DG?
17. Rob?
18. Fenikz?

Those are the people I generally assume. Willing to do somewhere between 14-16 people if that works. I don't want this to take forever so a clock would work. And this would start Monday, as I'm not having it interfere with Owl weekend.

comahan
02-05-2016, 05:12 PM
just make it shot clock era to eliminate the mikan problem, so 1955+

Brodie
02-05-2016, 05:21 PM
That works. Also note that you should take into consideration fit for the team, ie if you want to run up tempo/fast maybe Orlando Magic Shaq would be better than Laker Shaq.

comahan

Thats why I want to pick based on a 3 year window of the player, guys are equally effective during different points of their career when they are different players. Choosing a window is an easy way to distinguish which version of a player youre going to have rather than just saying "everyone is in their primes!"

Most all time great players have long primes where they evolve into different players, Jordan from 90-92 is remarkably different than Jordan from 96-98, but similarly effective, and I want to be able to distinguish that when we pick

Brodie
02-05-2016, 05:31 PM
I'm up for it. I don't make all the rules, I'm just the gate keeper!

Paul

Sorry.

how we gonna decide who's the best team? Just know it's me and be done with it?

Brodie
02-08-2016, 05:47 PM
I can ask peeps not partaking in this to judge (ie Rob, Fenikz, DG, woot, towelie, etc) or we can just have everyone rank each others. I'll be on everyone if we do the latter.

comahan
02-08-2016, 05:51 PM
i tend to enjoy the system where each person ranks all the other teams and we get a list out of that

SP

How do we approach guys with two insane years and one weaker one, three insane years over 4 years, two insane years and an injury year etc.? Do we have to pick a three year window or can it be shorter?

Brodie
02-08-2016, 06:46 PM
That's what makes it challenging.

SP
02-08-2016, 06:48 PM
Oh okay so when voting we think of it as if it's year 1/year 2/year 3? That's fine.

comahan
02-08-2016, 06:48 PM
3 year back to back window, the injury thing is part of why i wanted the window, because it creates a completely different draft than just 1 season or drafting people based on careers as a whole, bill walton for instance is an amazing pick for his '77 season in a 1 year draft - in this one not so much

SP
02-08-2016, 06:49 PM
Dammit BBD. At least be serious.

comahan

its fine, hes a top 10ish pick either way, wouldnt have made it to his 2nd pick - take the guy you want if you know he wont be there next pick. im ok with it even though i wouldnt have made the pick

Brodie

comahan
02-08-2016, 07:09 PM
from twitter convos i think that this one is at least semi legit, and if it was a troll pick then at least it was a top player (#11 ever imo) and not Gheorghe Muresan or something

TACKS
02-08-2016, 07:27 PM
8-man rotation?

comahan
02-08-2016, 07:30 PM
definitely 8 man playoff style rotation, dont want to go with 10 cause we want our all timers playing big minutes, and 5 or 6 is just not enough for a real team

Brodie
02-08-2016, 07:41 PM
8-man. As for the years, you guys can do them later just make sure to do so or I'll pick them with Cody.

Again I do have to reiterate to please make your rosters fit.

OSUGiants
02-09-2016, 03:50 AM
When we put down the years for our picks are we saying the year the season started. For example, I said 95-97 for Payton, that would mean I get him from the 1995-96, 96-97 and 97-98 seasons, correct?

Kyle
02-09-2016, 03:52 AM
I took it as the year the season ended.

SP
02-09-2016, 03:52 AM
Well he should have that led the run on point guards tbh.

Pretty much. Still hoped people might sleep on him because he wasn't god like in 2013/14 and we're only midway through the 2015/16 season. My third year with Jordan and 2015/16 Curry would've been unstoppable :(

SP

If he keeps up what he's doing this year for two more he'd be going 1st in this draft.

Maybe even one more year because his MVP year was still pretty good, relatively.

Fernando

Fernando

Since we're doing a three year window only, Dwight's best three will stack up well against any other primarily defensive big out there, and he had good offensive numbers to add to it. His control of the paint in his Orlando days was damn impressive. That finals team was garbage.

comahan
02-12-2016, 01:50 AM

bigbluedefense

I wanted Kemp or McHale originally. I wanted to pair Ewing and Kemp together. Then I thought of a Ewing and Zo front court, but that would be awful floor spacing, so I was hoping I could grab Zo as a situational front court guy to spell Ewing or Webber with. 1 pick away.

I had McHale as my 3rd round pick, btw him and Baylor. Chose Baylor and was hoping McHale could slip.

I'm still happy with my starting 5 right now: Ewing, Webber, Baylor, Billups and Kobe. Need to round out the roster now.

PF: Bob Pettit
C: Alonzo Mourning

The best player of all time
Three of the best offensive players of all time (Nash/MJ/Pettit)
Three of the best defensive players of all time (MJ/Hondo/Zo)
Elite shooters (Nash/Hondo/Pettit)
Elite rebounders (Zo/Pettit/MJ)
Elite passers (Nash/MJ/Hondo/Pettit)

Loosely based on the Nash Suns, MJ Bulls and Curry Warriors. Such athletic wings allow me to play a fast pace and score easy fast break buckets. My starting 5 averages like 28 assists per 36 minutes and has high IQ. We'll pass the ball a ton and get open shots for elite shooters and lockdown defenders at SG and SF allow me to stop the opposite. No other team has a chance, tbh. Nash will average about 20 assist per game with this team. He makes it all work, along with Mourning's defense, but it's the elite two way guys from 2-4 that make us unstoppable.

C: Patrick Ewing
PF: Chris Webber
SF: Elgin Baylor
PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: Kobe Bean Bryant

A Center who was an enforcer in the paint, block shots, rebound, defend, who could also post up, hit a baseline jumper, and attack the basket.

A PF who is a great passer, can stretch the floor with his jump shot, can post up, can rebound

A SF who could do it all. Defended Bill Russell, could do basically anything you want him to do offensively, lock down defense. Post up, shoot the 3, stretch the floor, pass, you name it.

A PG who can D up, feed the bigs, and shoot 3s.

And a perfect man at SG. <3

Your entire lineup sans Billups is so inefficient it's hilarious. Also, defended Bill Russell is not exactly a big deal.

Your PF is Kirelenko. Seriously. You took Kirelenko. In an all time NBA draft, you decided that defending some of the greatest PFs of all time with Kirelenko was a good idea.

Stfu.

As a Shaq truther I concede that he was THE most unstoppable post player in NBA history. You can make a case for KAJ in the sense that his offensive skills were impossible to defend while also being a physically intimidating figure.

KAJ's height and length would give Shaq trouble, I don't think Shaq could defend KAJ's offensive arsenal.

bigbluedefense
02-12-2016, 09:34 PM
They couldn't defend each other. KAJ was either hitting that hook or he wasn't, nothing you can do about it.

Shaq would abuse him and dunk all over him. It would be a wash. But KAJ would probably get into foul trouble vs Shaq so Shaq would get the upper hand.

Do you not realize how good younger AK-47 was? He was a legit top tier defensive player in the NBA, and was a good passer/got to the line at a very impressive rate/made the Jazz MUCH better when on the floor.

I know Sheed's viewed as an underachiever and he probably was considering he was arguably the most talented PF among his contemporaries in the greatest generation of power forwards. But he was still a super valuable player who was the best player on a team that was extremely close to beating prime-Shaq's Lakers and going to the finals. A stretch 4 who was a really impactful defender with low turnovers. His advanced stats, especially one's centered around +/-, indicate that he was a lot more valuable than some guys with better boxscore numbers (ex. CWebb). Sheed was a bit ahead of his time and his game would be even better appreciated in today's game.

I was debating between Rip and Johnson. I think Rip is a great player, but with my roster as is, I need a scorer.

PG: John Stockton
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Karl Malone
C: Artis Gilmore

G: Tony Parker

We're going to have such an efficient if hard to drop 120 ppg offense.

If only there wasn't a guard run before Parker, Harden was first on my board that round. He would have made this team so much better.
