Welcome to the 2016 NBA Draft (Lottery)!

Things are starting to get under way here at the Barclays Center. Teams are anxious and excited to begin tonight's festivities as they will be making decisions that will alter their franchises for years to come!

Welcoming you to our coverage is Mark Jones and Jay Bilas.
Several esteemed guests will be joining us during our coverage, but it seems like we're only moments away from beginning.

Mark Jones: Jay, it seems like just a minute ago that the Philadelphia Sixers won the #1 overall pick in this year's draft. Head Coach Brett Brown was a happy man that night. What can their fans expect to see tonight?

Jay Bilas: Yes, indeed the time is now here where Sixers fans can hopefully start to get rewarded for the years of record setting losing they have endured for the past few years. This draft is said to have 2 strong star prospects in LSU's Ben Simmons and Duke's Brandon Ingram. I think either player could step in and be the missing wingman that they need to go along with their trio of talented big men.

That said, could we be in for some fireworks tonight?
I would've rule out a trade if the Sixers can find something more attractive!

Mark Jones: Looks like the players are ready for the fireworks too!
Pretty soon each of them will be putting on hats that will determine their new homes for the next 4-5 years!

05-20-2016, 12:39 AM
Jay Bilas: Yes, tonight is a night of excitement for these prospects including these stars...
Buddy Hield, Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons.

Mark Jones: I'm getting word that things are about to start.
Let's see what the Commissioner, Adam Silver has to say.

Commissioner Silver: Welcome NBA fans across the globe to the 2016 NBA Draft! Tonight 30 teams, I mean... 13 teams will be making their selections out of 14 picks. Tonight we will only be conducting our draft of the teams drafting in the lottery.

We will officially open up the draft starting with the #1 overall pick belonging to the Philadelphia 76ers!

The Sixers are officially on the clock!

05-20-2016, 12:48 AM
With the first pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select:

Brandon Ingram, wing from Duke University

Quite simple what I have been saying since the start. Both are great prospects for different reasons, and we need outside help. Ingram comes in from Day 1 and is a Top 3 shooter on the team. Will look for him to contend for the ROY, along side Dario Saric and Joel Embiid.

05-20-2016, 01:07 AM
Mark Jones: Wow, that was a mild surprise there with Ingram going to the Sixers. Most media pundits and alike had them selecting Ben Simmons. This call must have come down from the GM Colangelo. HC Brett Brown has known Simmons going back to his days in High School where they both were in Australia.

Jay Bilas:Yes, but I love the pick! Ingram is the superior shooter and he has that special star quality about him. When Duke needed a go to guy, Ingram was always the guy they leaned on. Although Grayson Allen certainly made a case for that himself. As a Dukie, I'm thrilled that Allen decided to stay one more year. That's said, no doubt about it, Philly just landed themselves a star!

The Los Angeles Lakers are now officially on the clock!

Cue Drunk Chris Berman

Welcome back to the NFL DRAFT, I'm your host Chris Berman

I'll go straight to you Mel. Hey we all know the top two picks are locks (Goff and Wentz). Now there is now the talk about how they will be selected. Most say Goff #1 and Wentz #2, BUT MEL Los Angeles has the 1st pick so they have to pick Goff here Mel?

I'm Jalen Rose

Great stuff Mel, always very intersting, now let's go to greatest human being who ever lived. Roger Goodell who is about to announce the 1st pick

05-20-2016, 08:39 AM

Adam Silver: With the second pick in the 2016 NBA Draft The Los Angeles Lakers select: Ben Simmons, Forward from Louisiana State University

Kobe Bryant approves the pick

So Does Magic

Magic: I don't have time for this, Fuck Jim. I'm stuck watching this shit show fellas

05-20-2016, 08:40 AM
Chris Berman: What a great pick by Los Angeles a no brainer, now we go back to Roger Goodell with the 2nd pick

Jalen: Chris this ain't the NFL draft this the NBA Draft

Chris: But Los Angeles got the best player in this draft. so they had the 1st pick right?

Jalen: No man they had the 2nd pick, for some reason they took Ingram.

Chris: Who?

Jalen: Brandon In... I mean they took Wentz instead of Goff

Chris: Well I guess Los Angeles has the 1st pick after all becuase Philadelphia gone done fuck up the pick. Fire the fucking GM. How do you not pick a talent like Goff at #1 it just make me so angry

With the third pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics select Dragan Bender, power forward, Maccabi Tel Aviv!

Reasoning: Boston has already loaded their backcourt with young, talented players, so the focus for their team should be developing the frontcourt with skilled big men. They currently have some effective role players, but could stand to add size there after starting the 6’9” Jared Sullinger at center for most of the season. Bender will need to add strength before becoming a contributor, but has a versatile offensive skillset, high basketball IQ, and incredible height and length. Because Boston is already a deep team, they can afford to be patient while Bender develops further.

With the 4th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft

The Phoenix Suns proudly select

Domantas Sabonis, PF, Gonzaga

05-20-2016, 05:38 PM
With the 5th pick in the 2016 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Jamal Murray, SG, Kentucky

The Wolves have been one of the worst three point shooting teams in the league for years now and Murray brings an instant improvement to it while also having the upside to become a top 5 SG in the league. Also allows either him or Zach Lavine to come off the bench to provide some much needed scoring from the second unit which has a lot of trouble scoring and holding leads.

05-20-2016, 05:53 PM

Jalen Rose: Berman, you need to go "BACK, BACK, BACK, BACK..." the fuck outta here, you tool.

Bill Simmons: Chris is a funny man. So LA was in the perfect spot to take the remaining guy between Ingram and Simmons without having the pressure of busting with the #1 pick. Simmons here was a no brainer.

Jalen Rose: Not only was it a no brainer, but it was a SLAM DUNK for the Lakers. Ben Simmons is going to be a big hit for LA's most beloved professional sports team. Between De'Angelo Russell, Ben Simmons and Julius Randle have the Lakers have something brewing here that could represent the new Lakers Era.

Bill Simmons: What I wonder is what they are going to do with all that cap space they have. They are one of the few teams that can afford to sign 2 max FAs. As a Boston fan, I'd hate it... but if they were somehow able to reel in Hassan Whiteside to compliment Randle in the post and Evan Fournier to boost their outside shooting, THAT would be an impressive young assembly of talent.

Jalen Rose: Don't forget, they could also bring back Jordan Clarkson because they have his Bird Rights, which allow them to go over the cap to sign him.

Bill Simmons: I'm literally frightened by their offseason potential to turn things around.

Skal Labissière

05-20-2016, 06:46 PM

Jalen Rose: So Bill, how did you feel when it was announced that Woj tweet out that Boston and Philly had a deal "in principle" where Boston would trade out of the #3 pick in exchange for Jahlil Okafor?

Bill Simmons: Oh you haaaad to bring that up, huh? Well, I think that trade would've turned out really great for both teams! I think Brad Stevens would love to have a guy like Okafor who is such a force in the post on the offensive end and with the 3rd pick, there isn't a guy that I feel like we HAVE TO HAVE. Boston made the playoffs and Bender is still years away, so a guy like Okafor who came in with such a high floor and can contribute right now would've been nice.

Jay Bilas: Actually, it got to a point, actually where I fucking knew this trade was going down, but then there was some sudden controversy in the league front office in rejecting this trade.

Jalen Rose: What I find funny about the whole situation is that social media is blowing up already calling this "the curse of Sam Hinkie".

Bill Simmons: Yeah, the more I think of it, the more I would've loved it for the Celtics.

Jay Bilas: I still like Bender for the Celtics, but there is another loser out of this fallout. The Sixers would've more than likely passed up on Bender here and the Suns who supposedly HOT for Bender would've landed their guy.

Jalen Rose: I'll tell you who's NOT upset... Domantas "freaking" Sabonis and the Minnesota Timberwolves! A lot of people have Sabonis going towards the end of the lottery, and the Wolves landed the perfect compliment to their already studly young core, in Jamal Murray who can shoot the lights out! There's no confusion for him now on which hat to don.

05-20-2016, 07:28 PM
With the 7th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, The Denver Nuggets select - Buddy Hield - SG - Oklahoma

The Nuggets get the BPA with the 7th pick and can put Buddy right into the starting lineup next to Mudiay. Hield fills a position that hasn't produced for the Nuggets in a long time. Buddy is a great fit next to Mudiay with his ability to shoot the rock. Gary Harris had his best year as a pro this past season but still didn't do enough to solidify his starting position. Although Hield has some work to do with his ball handling and defense, he certainly can stroke it though and will have plenty of opportunities to do so.

05-20-2016, 07:49 PM
Once again Kings benefit from some questionable picks ahead of them to snag Kris Dunn, PG, Providence.

05-20-2016, 08:00 PM

05-20-2016, 08:27 PM

Walter Cronkite: This mawphucka Marquese is a freak. Gotdman.

Howard Cosell: I've gone through the film and picked out a few clips that show what makes this kid so special. Let's take a look.

Joseph Pulitzer: Intriguing talent there, Howard. Kids got some upside IMO.

05-20-2016, 09:19 PM

Jay Bilas: Let's recap a few of the recent picks. I thought Sacramento was fortunate to land Kris Dunn. This alleviates the pressure to commit big dollars to Rajon Rondo.

Jalen Rose: Yeah, but is that a good thing? Boogie has been campaigning hard to bring Rondo back. How long are we going to keep seeing Sacramento pick in the lottery? They need to get to the playoffs and all this losing has to be frustrating for the troubled big man.

Bill Simmons: It looks like the camera crew has caught up with the princess of the Sacramento Kingdom, Anjali Ranadive. I wonder if she approves of this pick?

Jalen Rose: I approve of Anjaliiiii!

05-20-2016, 10:39 PM
With the 10th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select Denzel Valentine, SG, Michigan State

The Bucks are another team with too many non outside shooters. Carter-Williams, Giannis, Greg Monroe, John Henson, etc. With Kidd saying that Giannis will be the new full time PG next year Valentine gives them a guy who can fill in contributing on the wing as a much needed floor spacer and also an excellent passer. He doesn't have the most upside of anyone in this draft but the Bucks have a solid enough core that they don't necessarily need to swing for the fences on this one, and Valentine will almost definitely be a solid rotation player in the league.

Jay Bilas: Welcome back to tonight's coverage of the NBA Draft. The Milwaukee Bucks have just made their selection of the 2016 NCAA Basketball Player of the Year, Denzel Valentine. What a tremendous cap to a 4 year college career for Denzel. He's one of the most unique players in the draft statistically and his basketball IQ is off the charts.

Mark Jones: Yes, in many ways I like this pick for the Bucks. Next up are the Orlando Magic. Now this is another nice young team trying to climb their way up the NBA ladder just like the Bucks and Kings who have just made their picks. Any ideas where they will go here guys?

Bill Simmons: I've been an admirer of Magic GM Rob Hennigan for some time now. He looks to be the only winner from the Dwight Howard trade, he was able to get Evan Fournier for Arron Afflalo, he got the most out of JJ Redick by acquiring Tobias Harris who they have since shipped away for cap space... but this summer is a big one for him. They have young players and cap space to sign 2 max FAs. Landing Frank Vogel was HUGE, so I think things are looking up for them, but I have no idea where they will go with this pick. They seem to like guys with raw athleticism who they can mold... Oladipo, Gordon, Hezonja...

Jay Bilas: Well, it looks like they are about to pick. Commissioner Silver is on the pulpit.

Commissioner Silver: With the 11th pick of the NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select...

05-20-2016, 11:27 PM

The Orlando Magic select F/C Thon Maker, High School

Jay Bilas, Mark Rose, Jalen Rose, Bill Simmons: WHOOOAAA!!!!!

Jalen Rose: I did NOT expect this! This is EXCITING!

Bill Simmons: Rob Hennigan is bold and beautiful.

Jay Bilas: This is a pick that will either BOOM or BUST. This is no doubt the most polarizing player in the draft. Some guys love him (apparently the Magic) and some guys hate him... labeling him as a 2nd rounder. But I don't think we'll know that until 3 years from now.

Mark Jones: We are fortunate to have Magic GM Rob Hennigan here. Any questions guys?

Bill Simmons: Rob, my man... Tell me what you liked about Thon Maker that made you take him with the 11th pick of the draft. Love the hair btw.

Rob Hennigan: Hi Bill, thank you. My hair is very special to me. We took Maker here because we analyzed his make up and potential and felt like we could swing for the fences with this pick. Sitting at 11 is unlike year's past when we were picking in the Top 5, so there's a little more leeway for taking that kind of risk.

Jalen Rose: Rob, how do you see him fitting in and what kind of impact to you expect from him?

Rob Hennigan: Well Jalen, we are going to take a cautious approach to developing Thon's game and making sure he has strong fundamentals of the game before we throw him into the fire. He's coming out of HS so we are projecting him to start off in the D-League. But Coach Vogel has said that he will give everyone a fair shot, and he was very instrumental in helping us make this pick.

Jay Bilas: What was Frank Vogel's comments about Thon?

Rob Hennigan: He loved the raw skillset, the quickness and athleticism for a guy with his size and he wants big men who can run the floor. Having a rolling big man to pair with a guy like Elfrid Payton is an intriguing addition that we currently don't have on the roster. Vucevic is a good individual scorer, but not a guy who will catch lobs for easy baskets, nor does he have the athleticism to be an elite defender. We think Maker has that kind of potential... but it will take time.

Mark Jones: Thank you Rob for your time. Good luck to your Magic.

With the 12th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the UTAH JAZZ select Jaylen Brown, F, University of California.

A wing player was a secondary need but Jaylen Brown's fall out of the top 10 made him a more attractive option for us than reaching for a PG. We feel he can bring an added element to our second unit, while offering the upside we seek with our draft picks for development.

05-21-2016, 01:05 AM
With the 13th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft

The Phoenix Suns are proud to select

Timothe Luwawu, SF, France
