View Full Version : 85 Shot Draft
TACKS
06-25-2016, 11:42 PM
85 shots is the average number of shots per game NBA teams took this season. The objective is to build the team best suited for winning in the playoffs right now in 2016 in the realistic framework of 85 shots.
9 Rounds
The total FGA/game of your 9-man roster must be 85.0 or less. If you go over that number, you lose.
The FGA numbers will be from the 2015-16 season.
Include the FGA/game number in your selection post
Everyone is healthy
No rookies from the 2016 Draft.
Snake draft order
I don't want to have a clock and hopefully it isn't necessary but I'll add one if this gets hella slow for some reason.
We'll do a playoff voting bracket if there's interest
Draft order
1. TACKS
2. DG
3. Rob
4. Brodie
5. comahan
6. WMD
7. Fernando
8. SP
9. Scottyboy
10 Kyle
(I acknowledge it does seem pretty shady that I ended up with the first pick but I swear to Allah that that's what the randomizer produced on the first try. Would've hit the randomize button again but manipulating the order like that would further dissolve the integrity of this very srs basketball draft.)
Dammit, I was gonna take Giannis. Dammit.

He'd be pretty fuckin good as a stretch 5 next to LeBron at this moment.
And of course Scotty takes Steven Adams right after...

You shouldn't have taken Iggy, duh.

When in doubt ask yourself: What Would Zach Do?
But seriously, he's easily the best bang-for-your-buck role player in this draft. Don't be so short-sited.
Can I change one of my picks? If Scotty wants him he can have him.

Well now I wanna know who Kyle originally picked. I had Thompson on my list, but probably wouldn't have picked him there, idk

Just pm'd you.
J.J. Redick.... I am not even in this but I just thought it was out of place.

Well, you picked Iggy after drafting Small Forward James, so to be honest I wouldnt have went that high with Iggy. Neither is a great three point shooter, so you really either put them in position of a non outside shooter at the two guard, Bron at PF which we all know he really doesnt like, or you just picked Iggy as a bench guy. All of which was dumb. Don't try and put my Iggy love as a crutch on here. I wouldn't have drafted like you.
I know you said seriously, but honestly I wouldnt have drafted Iggy that high being that your pick was Bron.

It's more the second part. I just generally disagree with your basketball opinions. That's all.

Knew so. I actually would love to know in a private chat which of these opinions of mine regarding the NBA you are disagreeing with. The only things I have been adamant in the NBA about has been how the 76ers have been ran, Embiid situation, and that Ingram was a better fit than Simmons.
Lmao the Iverson is Top 50. Figures.

Eh, he fits what I want to do. Still decent shooter, still decent defender. Looking back, there a couple guys I should have taken over him. But for one year, and with the guys around him, I think he's fine.

I hope not because if we take shit like that into consideration then my top two picks of Chris Paul and Boogie probably wouldn't work very well together.

No - you will take Nate Robinson, Joel Anthony or JJ O'Brien and you will like it.
Nate Robinson!!
I hope you die.
Love you too <3

Personally I am rooting for JJ O'Brien, although I was there for Nate's 45 spot vs. the Blazers and it was amazing.
I totaled exactly 85 FGA so I get bonus points! yay

How I missed WCS and took Koufos instead is the Browns-iest draft pick in recent memory.
Now that we're done, how did Dwight and Embiid go undrafted?
Embiid hasn't played a game so we couldn't pick him like all other rookies.
It says no rookies from the 2016 draft, I don't see why not.
PG: John Wall | Shaun Livingston
SG: JJ Redick
SF: Jonathan Simmons | Brandon Rush
PF: Anthony Davis | Blake Griffin
C: DeAndre Jordan
Brodie

Xavier, you're starting a guy at SF that played about 16 minutes there in his rookie year.

SG: Jimmy butler | james jones
Sf: Paul George | justice Winslow

C: Steven Adams | joakim Noah
Xavier, you're starting a guy at SF that played about 16 minutes there in his rookie year.
He's not going to play starters minutes. Shaun Livingston and Brandon Rush will both play significantly more with the primary (but not starting) lineup which has Blake at the 4 and Brow at 5.
John Wall | Shaun Livingston
JJ Redick | Jonathan Simmons
Brandon Rush | Shaun Livingston
Blake Griffin | Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis | DeAndre Jordan
I could go several ways.

Marc Gasol, C [13.6]
Draymond Green, PF [10.1]
Gordon Hayward, SF [15.0]
Thabo Sefolosha, SG/SF [5.0]
Kyrie Irving, G [16.6]
-
Donatas Motiejunas, C/F [5.5]
DeMarre Carroll, F [10.4]
Mike Miller, SF [1.3]
Manu Ginobili, G [7.5]
Squad full of guys who can all shoot, handle, and pass. Thabo maybe the only exception, but he shoots and plays elite perimeter defense. Very 2014-Spurs style for me.
Brodie
06-30-2016, 01:04 PM
You're going down harder than the pound. That was for Xavier...for Commie, I like your team but you have a serious hole that I know you know.
PG: Mike Conley/James Harden
SG: James Harden/Mario Hezonja
SF: Jae Crowder/Jared Dudley
PF: Tristan Thompson/Channing Frye
C: Karl Anthony Towns/Festus Ezeli
Fernando
06-30-2016, 01:57 PM
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Wesley Matthews
SF: Trevor Ariza
PF: Kirstaps Porzingis
C: Demarcus Cousins
Bench: Cory Joseph, Kosta Koufos, Kevin Garnett, Nate Robinson
This was definitely the most challenging draft wrt basketball that we've done, props to TACKLE for the idea.
I like my team, I think Paul leading that lineup would be excellent. The Paul/Boogie, Paul/Kirstaps pick and rolls with Wes and Ariza waiting in the wings for open threes would tear through just about anyone.
dg151
06-30-2016, 02:00 PM
PG - Steph Curry/Matthew Dellavedova
SG - Klay Thompson
SF - Nicolas Batum
PF - Luol Deng/Ed Davis
C - Hassan Whiteside/Bismack Biyombo/Jarnell Stokes
Smash bros raining 3s, Batum and Deng being all around support players, Wiltside shutting down the inside. Delly back up guard for 3s and annoying people, Biyombo rotates with Whiteside, Deng rotates at SF with Davis at PF giving extra size when needed. Stokes is the designated goon.
PG - Russell Westbrook (18.1)
SG - Danny Green (7.1)
SF - Khris Middleton (14.5)
PF - Marvin Williams (9.2)
C - Andre Drummond (13.1)
G - Josh Richardson (5.2)
F - Amir Johnson (5.4)
G - Tony Allen (7.3)
F/C - Willie Cauley-Stein (5.1)
Didn't end up drafting a real backup PG, but I'll probably use Tony Allen as backup when Westbrook needs to sit. Josh Richardson can probably handle it for a couple minutes too.

I wasn't question how you play this. I think it's pretty genius actually. Never thought of building a team from this angle before, so I'm just trying to imagine out how the shot attempts would shake out with the new magic team. It's just that there are more than 9 guys who I think would make up that 85 number.
