24 rounds, every NFL Star, playoff style format to see who takes home the crown!

Some basic rules:
1. When you select a player, you must specify what from year. Do you want 2007 Brady or 2008? Players can only be selected once.

2. 30 rounds - 15 offense, 15 defense - Kickers post draft (first come, first serve) FA

3. When the draft is over we’ll post our rosters and game plans, vote for seeding and then have head-to-head matchups similar to the NBA Rona Draft.

Let the games begin!

Signups:
1. OSU
2. Brodie
3. TACKS
4. Fenikz
5. D-Unit
6. SP
7. Alex

I really don't know much about all-time NFL players but dibs on Larry Centers & Kwamie Lassiter and I'm in

Brodie
03-23-2020, 04:53 PM
You can just draft modern players, it'll mostly be modern guys since barely any pre 1980 guys are draftable.

OSUGiants
03-23-2020, 05:08 PM
Yea you’re only hurting yourself drafting anyone pre 1970. Even players from the 70s it’s really only Babs that would know anything about them. I just didn’t wanna make it 1980-present cause if you wanna take Broadway Joe that’s your call

D-Unit

Should we do 25 rounds and include kickers? Are kickers people?

Passing on this one, but I'll be a tiebreaker vote if needed. Can't guarantee objectivity if a certain GOAT is involved.

The Alex
03-23-2020, 07:40 PM
I want in.

OSUGiants
03-23-2020, 07:50 PM
Assuming Tacks is actually involved we only need 1-3 more. Ideally we have 10 because I think 8 would mean the teams are way too close, but I’m cool with rolling with 8 if need be

D-Unit
03-23-2020, 08:13 PM
Yeah, then we'll all be wasting our time.

OSUGiants
03-23-2020, 09:04 PM
Yeah, then we'll all be wasting our time.

I mean the whole point is to waste time while on lockdown so fuck it if we gotta roll with 8 we gotta roll with 8

OSUGiants

Yeah I'm in. Assuming our teams would be playing under more or less current NFL rules?

Yea current rules

The Alex
03-24-2020, 03:18 AM
Are we doing coaches and coordinators too? My whole hypothetical team is contingent on coaching.

The Alex
03-24-2020, 03:21 AM
And yes we're should be doing kickers too.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 03:23 AM
No coaches drafted. Unless we finish the 25 rounds and people still wanna draft more

The Alex
03-24-2020, 03:31 AM
Fair enough but I get to explain my gameplan for the offense and the defense or at least the basic scheme because that's at least half the battle in designing a roster.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 03:34 AM
Fair enough but I get to explain my gameplan for the offense and the defense or at least the basic scheme because that's at least half the battle in designing a roster.

Of course. Same as we did for the NBA Rona Draft, you get 3 bullet points to plead your case and explain your strategy

The Alex
03-24-2020, 03:36 AM
Excellent. I'm already writing down priorities.

TACKS
03-24-2020, 03:42 AM
Let's get this started.

The Alex
03-24-2020, 03:50 AM
Yeah, we only need 8 teams. It'll be more fun with stacked rosters when we have to argue a over b.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 04:09 AM
Let's get this started.

We need 1 more. If we canít find 1 more by like 6pm tomorrow then I guess fuck it roll with 7

TACKS
03-24-2020, 04:14 AM
Odd number is good for voting tho. It gets rid of ties like we had in the NBA draft.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 04:20 AM
Odd number is good for voting tho. It gets rid of ties like we had in the NBA draft.

Yea I donít mind rolling with 7 but 8 would be preferred just cause the less teams we have the more stacked the rosters will be

TACKS
03-24-2020, 06:56 AM
I'd consider making this a post-1980 draft. It's just too tough to imagine of most players before that playing among players today no matter how good they were.

im out on this one, but yall need to lighten up on the oldschool hate, obviously most people in sports from 50 years ago cant compete today, but i feel like that completely misses the point, contextualizing to their era is so easy imo, just saying "this is how itd happen in a 2020 nfl" is anti-fun to me

Brodie
03-24-2020, 01:28 PM
Commie is in and will take Terry Bradshaw/Lance Alworth.

TACKS
03-24-2020, 03:05 PM
Having to pretend a 240lb offensive lineman could block Vince Wilfork just because he has a good resume is anti-fun.

Contextualizing guys in their era thing can work in basketball and baseball but is pretty much impossible in football with players before a certain point (maybe an exception for the great RBs). The game and the athletes have changed way too drastically. Otto Graham and Pat Mahomes might as be playing an entirely different sport.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 03:35 PM
We’ll keep it all time just cause there’s still some RBs, and LBs worth taking pre-1980, but you gotta know if you’re taking a QB, slow ass WR, or smol OL from then you’re probably just hurting yourself.

TACKS
03-24-2020, 03:39 PM
Sounds good.

OSUGiants
03-24-2020, 03:42 PM
We’ll start tonight around 5-6pm. Hopefully we can get 1 more by then otherwise we roll with 7.

The Alex
03-24-2020, 08:42 PM
I plan on explaining why any pre-1980 player is worth a selection if/when I pick them.

Brodie
03-24-2020, 08:52 PM
Alex will be selecting Bart Starr

The Alex
03-24-2020, 09:04 PM
1. Don Hutson, 1942; most dominant season in the history of the receiver position

The Alex
03-24-2020, 09:05 PM
And who could forget Bam-Bam Galloway's 1950 season at fullback on the Chicago Cardinals?

TACKS
03-24-2020, 09:17 PM
It's gonna be pretty jarring for Night Train when he has to cover WR's who aren't white.

none of them were bad picks, maybe Miller was a bit of a reach, but Sherman at his peak and Watt at his peak are both top 5-10 at their respective positions.

Watt at his peak is top 5-10 at his position? What is this nonsense

I put 5-10 because I was describing both. Sherman you could argue top 5, but more likely top 10. Watt is easily top 5. Don't be mad at me for sniping Charles Woodson from you

Fernando
03-25-2020, 09:22 PM
Watt was a good pick. His prime was arguably the best ever at his position.

The Miller and Sherman picks are not great.

OSUGiants

Watt was a good pick. His prime was arguably the best ever at his position.

The Miller and Sherman picks are not great.

Ehhhh you could argue the impact of the fellow members of the Legion of Boom, but Sherman had a 2-3 year span where he was all-time great at a position that you're going to need to be strong at in a draft like this with so many great QBs/WRs available

The Alex
03-25-2020, 09:28 PM
I hope fenikz picks another WR.

fenikz

I was gonna take Jerry

SP
03-25-2020, 09:45 PM
Watt was a good pick. His prime was arguably the best ever at his position.

The Miller and Sherman picks are not great.

Miller's an all-decade player at the toughest position to fill in a season he would've won DPOY if it weren't for the greatest defensive season ever

Brodie
03-25-2020, 09:48 PM
I don't see how you take Sherman over Champ Bailey

SP

Joe Looney would grab Deacon Jones by the ankles and shake him for his loose change.

McGee

The gap between Gronk and the next best TE is bigger than the gap between any player who is the best at their position and the next best player(s) at that position. He's super valuable in this draft for that reason (Reed too) and when you're at the end of the round you can't count on anyone falling.

Also, I already had a pic picked out for 06 Champ so I'm being salty toward Brodie.

Yes it’s individual year, but we also all know who had fluke years with big stats vs a truly dominant season. Shaq Barrett put up 19.5 sacks this year and nobody should be taking him in this draft.

There are better pass rushers with dominant careers who had incredible single seasons.

Also I just took 2 DBs with matching suplex gifs so I win the day.

I quite understand it. Houston and Harrison ahead of Demarcus Ware and plenty of other guys are pretty bad picks.

Andre Johnson was never even the second best WR in the league at his peak, and scored 8 TD’s the year you picked him. At one of the deepest positions for this draft. The champion of the hall of very good.

True, but it's an All Time draft as well so they can't just be flash in the pans. OSU already explained this.

In terms of injury, you choose a year the player wasn't injured and you should be good. But if he had an injury riddled career I think that's a negative look.

It's an all time individual season draft. If the player was genuinely elite for that one season the rest of his career is irrelevant.
